 279 some other languages than was widely available at that point. It also
 280 has single-width directed quotation marks, which are useful in a TTY
 281 environment where using the corresponding CNS characters within XEmacs
 282 would result in a miscalculation of column numbers and corresponding
 283 second-guessing and minor derangement when directed quotation marks are
 284 used.
